BCSSMA
Organizing
High School Drag Racing in B.C
Getting
Started Checklist
- Obtain
membership to the BCSSMA by completing and mailing in Membership form.
- Adopt
another member school in your area or district to help you.
- Schools
in your district wishing to participate MUST make a formal presentation
to your local school board for approval to participate in this program (this
qualifies your school as an approved activity under the insurance carrier for
BC schools).
- BCSSMA
approved high school races MUST only take place on NHRA approved
tracks. The 3 NHRA approved tracks in BC are:
§
Mission
Raceway
Park
- Mission,
BC
§
Eagle
Motorplex - Ashcroft,
BC
§
North
Central Motor sport Park - Prince
George,
BC
- Arrange
for an informational meeting with the parents or legal guardians of all
students involved in driving a car or as a passenger in a racecar. Explain the racing program to them and answer
their questions. Have the parent or legal guardian fill out the required
waiver forms and sign them. The sponsor teacher or an administrator must
witness these signatures.
Read
and understand the Rules and Regulations of the
British
Columbia
Secondary
School
Motorsort Association
PARENTS
AND STUDENTS MUST BE AWARE THAT THE SCHOOL
DISTRICT
IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOSS OR DAMAGE TO VEHICLES IN TRANSIT TO OR FROM, OR
WHILE RACING IN MOTORSPORT EVENTS,
AND THAT MOTORVEHICLE (ICBC) COVERAGE IS NULL AND VOID WHILE THE VEHICLE IS
PARTICIPATING IN A MOTORSPORT EVENT.
- All
students having completed the necessary waiver forms will receive, from their
sponsor teacher, a BCSSMA driver’s card. This card and their valid BC
driver’s license must be available at all races in which they plan to
participate.
- The
above checklist is by no means complete. For a
list of all the rules and regulations, you should obtain a current copy of the
NHRA rules handbook, which can be obtained from most automotive supply
outlets. Also, please see the Vehicle
Tech page (found on this web index page) for the TOP 12 MOST
COMMON PROBLEMS. Also, please see the BCSSMA Rules and Race
Procedures
page.
